I began norrisreport.com mainly in an effort to get closer to the music. I wanted to be in the photographer's pit, be in the SPLASH ZONE for concerts, interview the people close to the music, if not in the music itself. So as I was doing my occasional furious research on people to interview when it comes to being close to the music, I asked a question that I kept in my brain when I began the website: "Who has access to the bands; Who is close to the bands."
And it dawned on me: All of the backstage pictures that we see, all of the close up footage... there are people, real people, who take these photos. For a living.
I was fortunate enough to get one of these real life photographers on the phone for a quick conversation about his experience as a concert photographer. I was able to interview Jay Blakesberg, someone whose pictures you have most likely seen somewhere. If not his pictures, you know the subjects of his work. I was able to talk to Jay about experiences he's had and some of his strategies when photographing artists like BB King, Keith Richards, Snoop Dogg, Radiohead, and more.
